Danya Wright

On February 8, 2019, we lost a teacher at Sardis High School, Mrs. Wright. The students and faculty who knew her mourn her passing today. The day was an ominous one to say the least. There was no usual idle chatter or laughter in the hallways of the school. It was if the lights themselves dimmed. Only those who knew nothing of her or her battle with cancer were carefree today, or maybe they had heard of her, but not enough to give up more than a moment of silence. I knew of her. A brilliant science teacher, one that people spoke highly of, a light of passion when they spoke of her or her battle that she fought.

Personally, I never got to meet her; I saw her in passing, but it doesn't mean I feel nothing. Her death got me thinking.....if one of my teachers that I held up on a higher basis, one that I respected and cared for, was to pass, how would I feel? This is why I am not laughing and making mirth. Today I remember a woman who fought bravely through her own personal war. She was a beacon, but ultimately, she lost. The war is over for her, and now she will be laid to rest.

To her family, I am sorry for your loss. For the students she left behind, the friends, I can't imagine what you are going through right now. May you all find peace in the knowledge that you know she is now at peace and no longer has to suffer or worry about her cancer.
