Program Goals

 

The goal of the Business/Marketing Department is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for success in the workplace. The curriculum is structured to provide instruction in the required principles, concepts, attitudes, and skills for advanced study or employment.

 

Course Description/Goals

 

Business Technology Applications is a one-credit foundation course designed to assist students in developing technological proficiencies in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentations, communications, Internet use, ethics, and careers using technology applications. Simulations and projects promoting teamwork, leadership, and workplace skills offer further opportunities for application of knowledge and skills.

Instructional Philosophy

 

It is imperative that students lean to apply knowledge, skills, and ideas to solve problems and make decisions. A variety of teaching techniques (Self-Paced Tutorials, Software Applications, Project-Based Learning, Online Learning, Lecture/PowerPoint Presentations, Group Studies that promote teamwork, Application of Knowledge and Skills through FBLA Activities, etc.) will be used to integrate these critical thinking skills into the curriculum. These performance- and outcome-based measurements address the acquisition of individual knowledge and skills. The development of these skills along with the mastery of Business Technology Application concepts will prepare students for placement in entry-level business/office occupations. Therefore, students will be equipped to make a successful transition from school to the business world and society.

 

Assessment Procedures

 

Grades earned in Business Technology Essentials will be determined on a strictly numeric basis.  The average will be derived from the following criterion:

 

  • Unit/Lesson Test (Objective)
  • Production Test/Jobs
  • Lesson Review Activities
  • Lesson Summary Activity (Working)
  • Special Project Based Assignments
  • End of Term Test

 

The nine-week average is calculated by determining a numerical value for each assignment.  All points for the grading period are totaled to find the points possible.  Student’s grades are determined by adding the points earned and dividing by total points possible.

 

A student’s term average is calculated by combining the two nine week averages with an end of term test.

 

Etowah County Board of Education policies on grading and attendance will be followed.

Prerequisites

 

There is no prerequisite for Business Technology Applications.

 

Fee

 

There is $20 fee for Business Technology Applications.  This fee is for the maintenance of computer equipment, the purchase of toner for the printer, and replacement of equipment as necessary.

 

FBLA

 

The Future Business Leaders of America, a curricular component of the Business/Marketing program, is the national organization for all students in high school institutions currently enrolled in business programs. The activities of the FBLA enhance classroom instruction, develop leadership skills, and provide opportunities for professional growth and service. The Cost is $20 and it includes a t-shirt.
