"I know no way of judging the future but by the past."   Patrick Henry

I am a 1986 graduate of Sardis High School, and I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education with certification in both History and English from Jacksonville State University in 1990.  I began teaching at Sardis in 1990, then I spent two years teaching at Pell City High School, where I taught Alabama History and English and coached softball.  I moved to Fort Payne High School in 1993 and spent two years teaching Alabama History, U.S. Government, and English.  I returned to Sardis High School in 1995, and I have continued here since that time.  I taught World History and English for a few years before moving into the teaching of American History.  I received my Master's Degree in History from the University of Alabama in 1999.
I teach Advanced Placement United States History (APUSH) courses for our school. I completed my first APUSH training at Auburn University in 2008 and helped implement the  Advanced Placement History program here at Sardis High School.  During the summer of 2015, I received additional AP History training at Auburn University, and participated in the AP Annual Conference in Orlando during the summer of 2019. I worked as a reader for the College Board on the DBQ during the summer of 2020.
I also teach United States History 1491-1865 to our 10th graders, and I am the Yearbook Production sponsor. Additionally, I teach online ACCESS classes through the State Department of Education. I am the sponsor of our school History Club.
I am married to Michael Golden, also a 1986 graduate of Sardis High School, and we have two children - Payton and Madison, and a son-in-law, Mitch.  We have one granddaughter, Ava Claire, who is our biggest blessing! Madison and Payton both are carrying on the family tradition of teaching - they are special education teachers in other districts, We attend Bethlehem Baptist Church.  Most of our leisure time is spent with each other - our family time is very important to us.
I love being a Sardis Lion, and I hope that in some way I can help continue the tradition of excellence that has always been a part of our school and community.  Together, I still believe we can make a difference.  Go Lions!
